If you don't know, www.imdb.com (Internet movie database) is a repository for information relating to movies and television. I periodically check out the news area (a dichotomy of my character since I tend to hate all things celebrity, but somehow love to read about them...mostly when they screw up).
Anyway, there is a story about a young actress chosen for, I believe, the 4th Harry Potter movie who is to be [from the book], Chinese.
Without re-summarizing my point, here is the email I sent:
On your News page for May 10th, IMDB.com reports,
"...Katie Leung has beaten thousands of young oriental
actresses..."
Sorry, but you can have Oriental rugs, Oriental
tables, or Oriental tea (note capitalization), but
people are properly considered "Asian" or, in this
case as she is actually born in Britain, "of Asian
decent." Even the dictionary labels the use of
"oriental" (sic) when describing a person as
offensive.
Please, let the self-imposed moratorium on
intelligence stop.

I'm pleased to find the site has been changed.
Ok. My voice was likely one of hundreds, but I like to think the world does revolve around me from time to time.
